Our Doctors
The staffing pattern in each of our clinical departments reflects their respective service demands. For example our Radiology Department has 3 Consultants and no junior support, whereas our General Surgical Department has a three tier structure, which consists of 3 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist and 2 Non-Consultant hospital Doctors. Our complement of doctors is distributed along the following number of grades displayed below:

Consultants – 34
Associate Specialists – 2
Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors – 17
General Practitioners – 21.5

Consultants
Our Consultants are specialists in their particular medical field and provide clinical leadership within their department.

Associate Specialists
Our Associate Specialists provide support to Consultants, as well guidance for the more junior medical grades.

Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs)
Our medical and surgical NCHD grades provide junior support to Consultants and Associate Specialists and deliver a resident on-call out of hours service. Our NCHDs in Accident & Emergency provide a round-the-clock Accident & Emergency service, providing the first line of care, together with our General Practitioners.

General Practitioners
Our General Practitioners are responsible for the comprehensive delivery of our primary care services. These include community elements such as house-calls and medical services for the prison and elderly care centre.
