Primary Care Appointments

Registration

• Everyone needs to be registered with one of the three GP group at the PCC.

Blue Group:- Drs Flores, Jones, Montero, Negrette & Thoppil.
Green Group: Drs Chichon, Ferrera, Pen rice, Pincho, Pinto &Poyatos,
Yellow Group:- Drs Cortes, Fitzpatrick, Galloway, Gupta & Mena.

• As from 1st August 2012, Advanced and Routine on-the-day appointments should only be booked to see a GP from the specific group you are registered with.

• Group restrictions do not apply for emergency appointments.

• If you have not registered with a specific group yet, you will have been allocated a group at random.

• If you wish to change the group you and your family are registered with, please come down to the PCC and complete a ‘Change of group’ slip, collected from our appointment desks.

• We cannot guarantee always been able to offer an appointment with your first choice GP, especially if they have a disproportionate number ofregular patients or in months when they are on leave. It is therefore recommended that you consider having a second regular GP from the same group.

• It is intended that only in exceptional circumstances will you be booked in with a GP from another group.

Types of Primary Care Appointments

1. There are essentially three different options for booking an appointment.

2. Advance appointment: These Appointments are released at the beginning of every month and are pre-booked for a different day as described below. When available, we aim to provide advance appointments for no longer than
4 weeks ahead. These are intended for routine visits or problems that can wait.

3. Same day Routine appointments: Are released and booked on a daily basis as described below.

4. Same Day Emergency Appointment: Are released and booked on a daily basis as described below.

How to book an Advance Appointment

These are intended for routine visits or problems that can wait:

• As from 1st October 2012, Advanced Appointments for each month will be released on the first working day of that month.

• It’s simple, call to book an appointment at the beginning of the month in which you next need to see your Doctor.

• These appointments are restricted to your registered group.
• If all advanced appointments for your GP are taken up (more likely towards the end of the month), you will be offered an appointment to see another GP from that same group or advised to return at the beginning of the following month when more appointments will be released.

• If you run out of repeat prescription medication before you are able to see your GP, the clerks will direct you to the Prescription Advisory Unit who can provide repeat prescriptions.

How to Book a ‘Same-day’ Appointment

When requesting an appointment for the same day, please tell the PCC Clerk if you require a ROUTINE or an EMERGENCY appointment.

Routine Appointment:-For problems that are not urgent.

These are restricted to GPs from your registered group.
• REGULAR REVIEWS.
• REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS.
• ROUTINE MEDICAL.
• FOLLOW UP.
• RESULTS OF INVESTIGATIONS.
• HOSPITAL DISCHARGE LETTERS.
• PATIENT REQUIRES LETTER.
• REQUIRES REFERRAL.
• WORSENING OF CHRONIC PROBLEM.

Once all routine appointments in your registered area have been taken up for that day, you will be offered any available appointment with a GP from a different group. This is to make maximum use of daily routine appointments.

Once all Routine appointments for the entire day are taken up, you will be offered the next available advanced appointment which we aim to provide within 1-2 weeks and no longer than 4 weeks later.

If all advanced appointments for your GP are taken up (more likely towards the end of the month), you will be offered an advanced appointment to see another GP from that same group or advised to return at the beginning of the following month when more appointments will be released.

Emergency Appointment

For problems requiring rapid medical attention.
There are no group restrictions and you could be seen by any GP depending on emergency duties.

We have now completed the period of transition and are ready to implement the new appointment system. The system has been designed to improve access and improve the continuity of care provided to our patients.

• NEW SYMPTOMATIC PROBLEMS.
• INFECTIONS.
• REQUIRING SICK NOTE.
• WORSENING OF CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH SYMPTOMS REQUIRING PROMPT ATTENTION.

We encourage our users to book their appointments using our telephone service rather than coming down to the Primary Care Centre. The telephone lines are given priority and open earlier than the appointment desk as not to disadvantage patients who find it difficult to come down to the Primary Care Centre very early in the morning.
