Millicent Mackintosh Maternity Ward
11 Beds and 8 cots.
Maternity aims provide the best possible care for mother and babies, from
before conception throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period.
We have 3 Community Midwives running antenatal and postnatal clinics as well as Booking appointments. We have 2 clinic rooms and waiting area.
For admissions we have an assessment room.
If admitted antenatally with any complications of pregnancy or in early labour, women will be housed in either a 2 bed antenatal bay and /or side room dependent on the needs of the patient. There are 3 Labour Ward for deliveries. We also have 2, 3 bed postnatal bays to house mothers and babies. We hold a Special care baby facility with two incubators for those babies requiring emergency and stabilisation special care.
Unit layout & bed distribution:
The ward is divided as follows:
a)X2 antenatal beds (with a bath).
b)X3 labour bays (X2 standard X1 for still born/miscarriages).
c)X2 single rooms.
d)X1 single room with en suite.
e)X2 3 bed multi-bays (6 beds) with en suite.
There are 2 beds/incubators within the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) which are utilised as directed by the Consultant concerned and the Ward Manager.
All pregnancy related conditions both emergency and elective including inpatient observations during any stage of pregnancy.
Any other specialty, which does not meet the criteria set above, must be
cleared first by the Bed Manager (or designated deputy).
Daily: 15:00 to 16:30 and 18:30 to 19:30
Only 2 visitors per patient.
Children under 12 years of age are not allowed.
Visiting is at the discretion of the Ward Manager on duty.
