Screening
The Gibraltar Health Authority offers various screening programmes to check for diseases and health conditions before there are any signs or symptoms. The aim is to offer screening to the people who are most likely to benefit from it. Screening is a way of identifying apparently healthy people who may have an increased risk of a particular condition. These are not screening programs because for a program to be classified as screening it has to meet internationally and academically agreed criteria as described by Wilson WHO_PHP_34.pdf. That is not to say that some tests we undertake are not beneficial to health, however from a public health perspective, we do not classify certain tests as screening programs.
