At the pre-op assessment unit our aim is to assess your medical health prior to surgery regarding your fitness for your operation and provide you with any necessary information regarding your anaesthetic. You will not see your surgeon at this appointment.
The nurse will collect information from you regarding your medical history, current medication and allergies and also ask questions about your social circumstances relevant to your admission and to prepare you for your discharge home.
Some tests are undertaken at the time of your pre-operative assessment such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation levels, height and weight and other appropriate investigations are organised according to your individual needs. This may include blood tests, a heart trace and screening for the hospital acquired infection MRSA. In preparation for an ECG (heart trace) please do not use any moisturisers before attending pre-op assessment.
You will be provided with verbal or written information regarding your admission to hospital, including management of your medication.
