The GHA offers a full Paediatric Service based at the Rainbow (Children’s) Ward and Rainbow Out-patient/Clinics as well as the Children’s Health Centre.
The GHA Paediatric Service is supported by a local multi-specialty team of fully-qualified professionals who works closely together with the children and their families/carers, alongside the Visiting Clinical teams based in the UK.
The GHA currently employs five full-time Consultant Paediatricians who collectively offer a wide spectrum of expertise in Acute/General Paediatrics (both in-patient and out-patient services), locally appropriate level of Neonatal care, as well as a comprehensive Community Child Health service.
Rainbow Ward has a 21-bed capacity with 9 isolation cubicles (of which 2 are as High Dependency and 2 are for Adolescents) and 12 general medical and surgical beds.
Rainbow’s in-patient nursing team includes 13 UK-trained Paediatric Nurses, as well as 2 enrolled nurses. This nursing team also currently supports the hospital based out-patient/clinic services. Together with the Consultant team, this specialist nursing team provides a high level of clinical care offered to the local childhood population.
The Children’s Health Centre is newly established (in July 2019) to offer a one-stop shop for all of the children’s community level needs, including the Paediatric Multi-disciplinary services (0-18 team of Health Visitors/Nurses and Immunisation team, Dentistry, Dietetics, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Paediatrics & Specialist GPs, Phlebotomy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy and Gibraltar Young Minds, GYM) and facilitates Multi-agency work which is at the core of the work here.
